Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina Find Their Country Audience

Now that the American Idol frenzy has subsided, the ever-popular show can officially claim two more success stories in country music. Just five weeks after the season finale, champion Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina are still gaining ground at radio.

McCreery's "I Love You This Big" sits at No. 17 on Billboard's country airplay chart while Alaina's "Like My Mother Does" is at No. 45. Both tracks are listed with a "bullet," meaning their airplay is continuing to increase.

Both artists expect to release their debut albums in the fall. In the meantime, they'll travel across the U.S. with the American Idols Live tour, which begins July 6 near Salt Lake City.

Prior to their performance at the CMA Music Festival earlier this month, CMT Insider correspondent Allison DeMarcus chatted with both singers about their upcoming projects -- and not surprisingly, they're staying true to country.

"Hopefully I can bring that old flavor with a contemporary twist," McCreery said. "That's what I like to say because I grew up with Conway Twitty, Hank Williams and Merle Haggard, so I don't want to lose that part of country. I want to keep around that flavor."

Meanwhile, Alaina noted, "It's definitely going to be country because that's where my heart is. I'm going to try to keep it fast and slow, so there are not too many fast songs or too many slow songs."

Because of their high visibility on Idol, fans mobbed both singers at CMA Music Festival.

"It was insane," McCreery said. "It's really cool to see the fans embrace us, though I wasn't sure how they'd embrace the Idol kids not doing the honky-tonks and everything. But apparently it was a madhouse trying to get tickets to come see us. People were getting trampled. Someone had a sign saying they waited 17 hours and slept on the sidewalk just to meet [us]."

In response to detractors who claim that McCreery and Alaina are too young to begin a career in the entertainment industry, Alaina replied, "I disagree. I think that I'm used to going to school every day and learning new things, so what better time to learn something than when I'm used to learning, you know?"

Carrie Underwood, who launched her career after winning American Idol in 2005, is perhaps their biggest booster. She introduced them to the Grand Ole Opry audience leading up to CMA Music Festival and encouraged both of them to keep in touch with her.

"She's given us a lot of advice and a lot of support," McCreery said. "She gave Lauren and me her number so we can text her if anything comes up and if we have a question. She's been really great and really supportive of us both."

Asked what it means to have Underwood's endorsement, Alaina replied, "You know, I get asked that all the time, and I can't ever find the right words to explain it because I look up to her so much. Then I got to meet her, and she's just as beautiful in person as I thought she was. Sometimes you meet people and they're not who you'd think they would be, but she is. She's just incredible."Source URL: http://collectors45.blogspot.com/2011/06/

Taylor Swift Shines in Foxborough

Taylor Swift delighted fans, performing two sold-out shows at Gillette Stadium, June 25-26, in her "Speak Now" tour.

It was a two-night love story between Taylor Swift and her fans that ended Sunday night at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

Country music sensation Swift, who performed at Gillette, her first large-scale venue last year, returned to Foxborough June 25-26 for another spectacular, over the top show.

Swift, a four-time Grammy award winner, led fans through the pages of her diary during her high energy, two-hour performance. Tales of first love, lost love and best friends were displayed through numerous costume changes, set design and two firework displays.

Sparks flew as Swift opened her show with the number “Sparks Fly” from her current “Speak Now” album. Swift, dressed in a glittery gold dress, emerged from the middle of her runway in cloud of smoke with gold fireworks bursting behind her above the stage.

The opening act left jaws hanging as fans quickly realized the show was going to be much more than your typical country concert. Swift was silent after her first number, clearly soaking in what must have been an unbelievable moment for her – performing in front of over 100,000 fans in two days.

“Foxborough is the first place that I realized it was a possibility to play for [over 100,000] people in two days,” said Swift.

Entertainment was plentiful, as Swift incorporated Broadway, ballet, tap dancing, and an array of musical instruments into her show.

Hints of Broadway shined through during the “Story of Us,” which was performed on a grand staircase with a group of talented dancers, to an “old school” themed tap dancing performance during a costume change for Swift. The song “Speak Now,” was played out with a wedding on stage, telling the tale of a wedding being interrupted when the preacher asks for any objections.

Swift’s costume changes elaborated the Broadway look from glamorous gowns, ruffled, vintage costumes and glitzy short dresses.

The show slowed down as Swift performed her more delicate songs, “Last Kiss” and “Fearless,” on a purple and white, revolving lighted tree in the middle of the stadium.

The show ended like any real love story – memorable and thrilling. Swift ended the show with her hit song "Love Story," in which she soared above the audience on a “Romeo and Juliet” style balcony structure.

Swift, although young, has catapulted herself into the music history books. A humbled Swift spoke very little during her show, compared to many new generation performers, simply letting her music speak for her. She paused the show for three minutes after the first act to repeatedly thank the crowd for their support.

Singer Justin Bieber arrives at the BET Awards '11

Bieber & Gomez

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez spent some time shopping at an NYC A|X Armani Exchange store Tuesday afternoon -- and they dropped more than cash.

According to numerous onlookers, the couple strolled throughout the two-level store hand-in-hand and displayed some serious PDA and more than a couple 'I love yous.' Gomez helped the Biebs pick out a selection of A|X's Pima cotton T-shirts, both crew and v-neck, in grey and white. They finally left the store around 6 p.m. with multiple bags in tow.

Oh to be young, in love and super-duper rich.

Bieber’s been on the promo trail for his new perfume, Someday. An appearance at Macy’s last week prompted mass chaos -- and a scuffle broke out when an undercover cop tried to calm frenzied teen girls.

Gomez has a lot on her plate too -- she just released her new album, When the Sun Goes Down, on Tuesday.

"I think each album kind of represents the time that I'm in," Gomez said recently. "This album is really uplifting. It's fun and upbeat and it's got great messages, and I think it's going to be a big summer anthem for a lot of people... hopefully."

She’s also gearing up for the release of her new movie with Leighton Meester and Cory Monteith, Monte Carlo.

That doesn’t mean she always likes her jet-setting lifestyle.

"I have to be a teenager," Gomez told the Philadelphia Inquirer recently. "I have to hang out with my friends. I have to talk to my friends. I have to get out by myself without security or my mom. That's if my mom can get me out of the house, because I'm actually a couch potato. I love sitting and watching movies."

Selena Gomez freaks out after surprise meeting with crush Shia LaBeouf

Even the biggest celebrities still get star-struck.

Case in point: Selena Gomez's minor freak out during a recent run-in with childhood crush Shia LaBeouf.

In a video posted to the actress' YouTube channel, an assistant tells the "Wizards of Waverly Place" star she's meeting fans in a nearby dressing room. When the normally cool and collected Gomez rounds the corner to see LaBeouf in the make-up chair, panic ensues.

"Oh my gosh!" the shocked teen squeals before turning to flee down the hallway. An amused LaBeouf is quick to jump up and calm the blushing star, though.

"Thanks for being so sweet to me," he says, taking her in for a reassuring hug.

"I'm sorry to bother you," the tongue-tied Gomez apologizes. "I admire you."

After posing for a few more pictures the giddy star makes her exit to fan herself in another dressing room and gush to her assistants.

"You guys suck! You used my fans as bait," she jokes. "Oh my gosh, he's so handsome!"

Seems Gomez, 18, doesn't hold LaBeouf's recent Details interview against him. The "Transformers" star, 25, stirred up controversy on Tuesday when he revealed he got intimate with co-star Megan Fox during filming.

"Look, you're on the set for six months, with someone who's rooting to be attracted to you, and you're rooting to be attracted to them," he said. "But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen."

Taylor Swift shines during "Speak Now" tour

The rain and fog was no match for the hordes of plaid shirts and cowboy hats that flooded Hartford's XL Center for Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" concert Wednesday night.

After a quick opening set, regal red curtains opened and Swift emerged to a roar of applause from the nearly sold-out crowd. Fans boasting glow sticks and light-up signs cried out for Swift who, in her gold-fringed mini dress and cowgirl boots, smiled adoringly back.

Basking in the glow of the spotlight, Swift revealed a trail of lyrics down her left arm and a lucky "13" drawn onto her right hand. She shared a few thoughts with the crowd about her tour before jumping right into the first three songs.

Armed with a red guitar and Cirque du Soleil-inspired dancers, she quickly had the audience singing along to songs like "Mine" and "Story of Us." It wasn't until Swift exited the stage following a performance of her first single, "Our Song," that the crowds stopped to breathe and take in all of the excitement.

The calm did not last for long. Swift soon returned to the stage amidst a cloud of metallic confetti, dressed in a powder blue ball gown and perched at a white piano. The entire XL center buzzed as Swift began a seamless mash-up of One Republic's "Apologize" and her own track, "Back to December." She continued to power through the set, complete with plenty of eye-catching costume changes and intimate chats with the audience.

Swift connected to her fans with relatable songs about last kisses, first love, breakups, and following dreams. If the echo of the crowd singing along wasn't enough, a wave of screams overcame the arena when Swift walked through the audience to an illuminated white tree, where she sang to 360 degrees of cheering fans. She even performed a medley of Train's "Hey Soul Sister," Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours," and her own, "Fearless."

Swift gave the crowd a well-rounded show, easily transitioning from up-tempo, romantic tracks to "Haunted," a ballad about lost love. Her dancers added depth to the scene as they performed flips and spins while suspended midair above the stage. The show even included colorful pyrotechnics that poured sparks just feet from where Swift stood with her guitar.

For the last few songs in her set, Swift donned an ethereal nude dress and a sparkling white acoustic guitar. She settled atop a plush sofa and eased into the crowd-pleasing "Fifteen," while a slideshow of band mates as teenagers played behind her.

Not to be outdone by the elaborate scene from earlier in the show, Swift mounted a moving balcony for her finale performance of "Love Story." Camera flashes followed the 21-year-old starlet as she hovered through the audience, singing the hit single through every section of the cheering arena.

If Hartford's turnout was any indication of Swift's ability to attract loyal fans, then the all-American recording artist is in good shape for the rest of her tour. She showed her many levels of songwriting and humility, and gave the young audience a solid vocal performance.

Swift's "Speak Now" tour features various opening acts and continues through late November. The next stop for the country-style sensation is the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts this Saturday night.

Lauren Alaina: ‘I Want to Write With Taylor Swift’

Lauren Alaina is doing so much post-’American Idol‘ media coverage that you might think she actually won, instead of placing second to Scotty McCreery on Season 10. The Boot chatted with the pretty blonde singer, unearthing the story behind the first song that the 16-year-old ever wrote and her dream collaborator. It’s not Scotty — it’s Taylor Swift!

“My uncle’s wife had a car wreck and was in the hospital, so I wrote a song and sang it to her,” Alaina said about the first tune she ever penned. “My mom keeps them all, and my handwriting was horrible! You can tell I was a little kid.” Handwriting aside, it is a sweet, sensitive sentiment for Alaina to have authored a song for her ailing aunt.

Alaina say she still writes as much as she can, but with her hectic schedule during the ‘Idol’ aftermath, including the upcoming tour that kicks off on July 6, she isn’t writing as much as she’d like.

“I’ve got to get back into it,” the teen acknowledged. “I want to write with Taylor Swift, but I think that’s kind of impossible.” Alaina also namechecked fellow blonde females Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood as country stars she’d like to collaborate with. “I like that they’re singers and writers, too … I just want to meet those people,” Alaina said. All in due time, Lauren. All in due time.

The singer is currently sifting through songs, as well navigating the policies and procedures that come with signing to a record label. She is plowing through demos, which she finds to be a somewhat pleasant experience, especially when the songs tell good stories. “A few of them I’m really excited about,” the singer said. “Country music’s really good about telling a story, so I want songs that tell good stories where people can say, ‘That happened to me!’”

Alaina hopes that some of the songs that she writes herself will make it on her debut. “We’re still in the process of figuring things out,” she admitted, not giving up too much information. “If I could do some of my songs, that would be cool. But I have to do whatever is best for my album.”

Scotty McCreery iPhone And Android App ‎

American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, can now be with you wherever you go, so to speak. BlueHaze has created an iPhone and Android app that provides several ways to make fans feel closer to Scotty.

There is a “Scotty and Me” feature in the app that lets users put themselves into pictures with Scotty. Fans can access his twitter feed through the app, and even test their knowledge of Scotty in a trivia game. It includes updates on the American Idol tour, as well as a fan wall to talk about the latest news surrounding the singer and share thoughts on his music and performances. The app also has pieces of Scotty’s performances on American Idol, but the performance must be purchased in order to see the whole thing.

The app is perfect for Scotty’s biggest fans. It will let them know what’s going on with their favorite singer and provide facts about him as well. In the past, BlueHaze has made apps for other acts, like Kings of Leon and the Pixies. Now, they have also made a similar app for American Idol runner-up, Lauren Alaina. Justin Bieber Admits Selena Gomez Is 'The One' -- Will He Propose?

The Justin Bieber-Selena Gomez romance is not only growing more publicly visible--if that's possible--it also seems to be increasing exponentially in its intensity. Contrary to the cynics' suspicions and the haters' hopes, the Never Say Never star and his Monte Carlo leading lady are absolutely serious about their love for each other, and the future of their relationship. Sorry, beliebers', but it looks like Selena is here to stay. At least Selena thinks so.

Sources say, "there could be wedding bells in (the) future" for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. JB has made it clear to Selena that he doesn't see their relationship as "some short-lived romance." He intends to be there for her for the long haul. As for Selena, she has, as her recent songs attest, fallen hard for the Biebs.

"Justin has told Selena she's the one," reveals the source. "Selena adores Justin and is definitely in love for the first time in her life. She's talked about how cute their kids would be and that sort of thing."

Well, naturally. Almost everyone who's ever been in love believed it would last forever. And most women in love think about having children with their man--even to the point of choosing names for them. Still... Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are only 17 and 18.

Fans who fear that Jelena might throw caution to the winds and do something... unwise can relax. They're young, not stupid.

"Selena and Justin are having an intimate relationship," tattles the source. "But she's not going to let herself get pregnant. She definitely loves kids and could see herself having Justin's baby one day. But it's not going to be right now."

Whew. Well, jealous beliebers can relax--for a while. But they may soon have to face a harsh reality. Although wedding bells may not ring in the very near future for Selena Gomez and their idol, an engagement may be imminent. So, man up, little girls. At some point in the not-too-distant future, there may actually be a Mrs. Bieber, and her initials will be S.G.

    Sorry, beliebers'.

Note: Guess this makes Selena Gomez the ultimate "One Less Lonely Girl."Source URL: http://collectors45.blogspot.com/2011/06/

gomez breaks records for muchmusic awards

Selena Gomez hosted the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards for the first time this weekend and it did fabulous. In fact, it broke records for Canada and is a good mark to make in her record. Here are the details about the records it broke.

The show had roughly 2.8 million viewers, the most for a non-news related show in Canada. The awards show had Selena perform, host and of course they also had her boyfriend on it. The show was not non-eventful except for those who wanted to see the duo together. Nothing grand happened, but many had high hopes for the MTV wanna be network.

I have to say that I am sure they are pleased with the end result. Even if the show did not offer the adults much, at least you know the parents can sigh and take a break from the frenzy. I wonder how Selena feels about being number 1 in Canada? I am sure she is likely happy to know that her boyfriend’s native land accepted her with welcomed arms. I am sure that weighed down on her in a big way, but that has been cleared up by now for Selena. She can finally sigh and relax at last over that.

Justin Bieber scores big laughs at manager's 30th birthday roast

    Justin Bieber
may be closing in on triple-threat territory sooner than we think: the 17-year-old got big laughs roasting his manager Scooter Braun on Saturday.

At Hollywood's Music Box theater, Bieber joined his mentor Usher for an exclusive 30th birthday roast of Braun, credited with discovering the music phenomenon in 2008.

"Justin did an impersonation of Scooter negotiating a deal on the phone," a partygoer tells the Ministry. "He had everyone in stitches. He was pretending Scooter was setting up a sequel to 'Never Say Never.'"

"My name has to be on the poster," Bieber demanded in his bit about Braun. "... and we're calling it 'Never Say Never Ever.'"

The film, a 3-D concert flick that charts Bieber's rise to fame, netted almost $75 million in domestic box office and further solidified Bieber Fever.

Following the jab-fest, emceed by Usher, a party ensued that naturally featured the talents of Braun's clients and friends.

Bieber was joined onstage by Jaden Smith, son of Will and Jada, and the duo belted their hit "Never Say Never," followed by Bieber's single "Baby." It didn't take long for Usher to offer up "OMG" and "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love."

Bieber surprised Braun by booking MC Hammer to throw down tracks like "Too Legit to Quit." Braun's pal and "The Voice" judge Adam Levine got inspired to climb up on stage and sing the Maroon 5 hit "This Love" -- pulling Braun up with him and making him dance. Asher Roth, another Braun client, performed his single "I Love College."

Celeb revelers included basketballer Jay Williams, singer Mary J. Blige with husband Kendu Isaacs, Rita Wilson with son Chester (or Chet, as his hip-hop persona is called), Madonna's manager Guy Oseary and reality personality Kim Kardashian.

Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery will be 'friends forever'

American Idol has wrapped its season on Channel 10 in Tempe, but there is still news coming out as the two final contestants of this season work on their debut albums. Taste of Country reported on Monday that these two, Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery, will be 'friends forever.' This comes from Lauren Alaina herself. Scotty McCreery also revealed that he wouldn't be against a move to Nashville in the future if his career called for it. Right now, the American Idol winner lives in North Carolina. Lauren Alaina continues to live in Georgia.

Shortly after the season finale of American Idol in May, rumors of the two dating surfaced. The two youngest contestants were often put together for duets, and a kiss Lauren Alaina gave Scotty after his win was announced started people talking, but both have made it clear that only a friendship exists between them. Both are busy working on selecting material for their debut album releases. No dates for those releases have been set yet, but the pair will be busy in the months to come with the American Idols live tour kicking off July 6.

Fans are still buzzing about both singers on social media.

American Idol, which airs on Channel 10 in Tempe, is already getting ready for season eleven. What do you think of these two? Will their friendship stand the test of Nashville?

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s latest hit, “Mean”, all began when the 21-year-old superstar wrote down her thoughts and feelings about a certain person who had written very “mean” things about her, and put it to music. So, to see it physically and emotionally connect with fans on tour is especially gratifying to Taylor. “It‟s just really fun to see Mean do well…especially based on what I wrote that song about and based on the fact that it came from me going through a really tough time in writing that song, because I felt so powerless I just didn’t know what else to say or what else to do,” she says. “And hearing that song being sung louder than my voice is coming through the P.A. in a stadium is sort of the coolest experience of my life, because when you write a song and it comes from such a vulnerable moment in my life and then you get to stand on a stage and the affirmation that 50,000 people have gone through that too and they’re singing along, it’s been kind of wonderful.” The song, which was officially certified Gold this week, received the same response Saturday night for the capacity crowd at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field during another stadium stop on Taylor’s Speak Now World Tour. The Heinz Field stop marks her third stadium performance within the past week, coupled with last weekend’s plays at Detroit‟s Ford Field and Nashville’s LP Field.Source URL: http://collectors45.blogspot.com/2011/06/

Taylor Swift and Pal Selena Gomez Try to Have a Normal College Experience

Taylor Swift and one of her friends, pop star Selena Gomez, had the incredibly bright idea to try and enjoy a normal college experience when they flew out to visit Swift’s younger brother at the University of Notre Dame last September. While many young people envy Swift’s and Gomez’s rich and famous lifestyles, the grass is always greener on the other side. The duo wanted to see what it was like to just be normal and to fit in, if for a fleeting night.

The ladies even hatched a well-meaning plan to fit in with other students, but it backfired. Granted, most Notre Dame students are not best-selling singers who will stand out no matter what they do to blend in. But regardless, Swift and Gomez literally gave it the old college try!

“So we fly to Notre Dame and decide we’re gonna fit in,” Swift recounted in Gomez’s upcoming E! special, according to OK! Magazine. “We went and we got all this Notre Dame gear so we’re like wearing the Notre Dame jacket and the Notre Dame visor and we learned that’s not how you fit in at college, evidently.”

Well, duh, ladies! We understand the sentiment of wanting to support “your” team, but you try and be inconspicuous, especially when you are famous. You will inevitably call attention to yourself by overdoing it. We can just picture the girls standing out like sore thumbs, totally decked out in Notre Dame gear, like when Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall were cloaked in head-to-toe New York City attire in the ’80s comedy ‘Coming to America.’

“As we were walking around, masses of people ended up following us,” Swift recalled. “And yes, they had to call security, but it’s all we have that’s close to a normal college experience.” At least Swift and Gomez made a college-related memory.

Additionally, Swift and Gomez were allowed to watch the first game of the season from the sidelines, as Notre Dame beat Perdue. Post-game, they went to Rocco’s, a popular pizza haunt.

Justin Bieber arrives on the red carpet

Selena Gomez: ‘I’m Much Better Now’

Selena Gomez seems to have made a complete recovery following last week’s health scare that resulted in a trip to the hospital for the teen queen. Now, the singer/actress says she’s back and raring to go.

“I’m good! Very happy, very healthy,” Selena told us at a junket for her new film, “Monte Carlo,” in New York City on Friday. “I’m much better now.”

The star, who attributed her recent illness to malnourishment and her love of junk food, revealed she has already begun to change her eating habits – starting with a nutritious breakfast.

“[My breakfast] was not fun to eat,” she said with a laugh. “But it was very healthy!”

As for whether she plans to make permanent precautionary changes to her eating habits while she tours with her band, The Scene, Selena said she’ll still indulge her sweet tooth – but in moderation.

“I’m still 18, so I kind of want to eat and veg out occasionally,” she said. “But I just need to watch the intake.”

As previously reported, Selena recently explained what landed her in the hospital last week and forced her to pull out of a previously scheduled promotional appearance for her upcoming film.

“I was very malnourished,” she told us on Monday during an appearance at the Santa Monica Place Center Plaza in Santa Monica, Calif., as she promoted her new film and performed with her band.

“I was dehydrated and very low on iron,” she continued of her health scare. “So, I’ve just gotta take care of myself.

See Selena on the big screen – alongside “Gossip Girl” star Leighton Meester – when “Monte Carlo” hits theaters on July 1.

Demi Lovato shoots new music video in the desert

Demi Lovato has shot a music video for her new single.

The Camp Rock actress had teased fans on Twitter about an upcoming project before revealing that she had filmed a new promo in the desert this week.

Lovato wrote: "Can you guys guess what I'm doing today....??? Noooo... not recording... I'll give you a hint... I'm shooting something.. But can you guess what it is???

"Today I'm......... SHOOTING A NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR MY NEW SINGLE!!!! ARE YOU EXCITED???"

She later teased: "So this one time... I was in the middle of the desert......"

Lovato returned to work earlier this year after seeking voluntary treatment for "emotional and physical issues" in November. The 18-year-old later detailed her struggles with self-harm and bulimia in an interview for 20/20.

Lovato left her Disney show Sonny With A Chance in April to aid her recovery, saying that being in front of a camera would make her nervous and revealing that she wanted to focus on her music.

She released her first album Don't Forget in 2008, with the follow-up Here We Go Again arriving the following year.

"Feels amazing to have shot a music video when 8 mo. ago I was terrified of the camera," she added on Twitter after the video shoot. "Very thankful. Couldn't have done it without y'all.

"I love the friends I have today.. The support I have from them has gotten me so far... We're back baby!! Seriously guys.. We all know this last year hasn't been the easiest... But today we officially came back."

Lovato revealed her newfound body confidence last month, posting a photograph of herself in a bikini on Twitter. "I never thought I'd ever feel confident enough to ever to (sic) that," she said. "I'm excited how far I've come since being completely ashamed of my body."Source URL: http://collectors45.blogspot.com/2011/06/

Selena Gomez: 'Parents' divorce was hard'

Selena Gomez has admitted that she found her parents' divorce "hard" to accept.

The Wizards of Waverly Place actress opens up about her parents' separation when she was a young child in an upcoming special for E!, which airs June 29.

Gomez says in a preview transcript: "I wanted a family so bad. I wanted to have my dad and my mom together. So it was really hard."

Her mother adds: "It was very hard for her and she didn't understand. You know, it was like destroying her family. All we could do is just say, 'I'm sorry, but you will understand one day'."

Gomez also gives an account during the special about the time that she and close friend Taylor Swift tried to blend into college life on a visit to the University of Notre Dame in Indiana to see Swift's brother.

"We went and we got all this Notre Dame gear so we're like wearing the Notre Dame jacket and the Notre Dame visor and we learned that's not how you fit in at college evidently," she recalls. "As we were walking around, masses of people ended up following us. And yes they had to call security but it's all we have that's close to a normal college experience."

Gomez is currently promoting her third studio album When The Sun Goes Down and can be seen opposite Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy in the upcoming comedy movie Monte Carlo.

The 18-year-old, who is dating Justin Bieber, was recently treated in hospital after suffering a headache and nausea. She later explained that malnourishment and exhaustion had caused the symptoms.Source URL: http://collectors45.blogspot.com/2011/06/

Scotty McCreery 'wants to separate self from Idol'

    Scotty McCreery
has confessed that he hopes to "separate" himself from American Idol.

The 17-year-old, who was crowned the winner of the competition's tenth season last month, told AOL's The Boot that he hopes to overcome the stigma that can often be associated with beginning a music career on reality TV.

"It's a lot of pressure. Just the title of American Idol is something that people can look up to. I'm not Saint Scott, I'm not Mr Perfect but I want to be that role model," he explained.

"I want to go down the same road that Carrie Underwood did - kinda separate myself from Idol. Because when you think of Carrie Underwood now, you don't think, 'American Idol Season Four winner', you just think, 'Carrie Underwood'. I want to cross that bridge. There's a lot of pressure and work that goes into it, but I'm looking forward to it."

McCreery went on to say that he had no doubts about his ability to do well on Idol despite being a country singer, adding: "I have that old flavor in my songs and old sound, but you've gotta keep it contemporary in today's world. I didn't feel like I was the underdog, I just felt like I was being me and I was anxious to see where that took me."

McCreery recently insisted that he would not abandon his country roots and would make a record in the genre.Source URL: http://collectors45.blogspot.com/2011/06/

Justin Bieber Pays Tribute To Sean Kingston At Gig

Justin Bieber paid homage to his pal Sean Kingston at a charity gig in California over the weekend.

As we previously reported, the Beautiful Girls rapper was injured last month after crashing his jet ski into a bridge in Miami, leaving Kingston in a serious condition.

The 21-year old star, who collaborated with Bieber on tune, Eeenie Meenie, is now said to be walking again after the accident, with Justin reaching out to Sean at the charity concert on Saturday.

Speaking live on stage at the event, which was hoping to raise money for College Track, JB urged Kingston to "get better" and paid tribute to his pal in front of the audience.

The 17-year old star later took to Twitter to speak of the gig, telling his followers: "Great night!! Felt great to be back on stage. And for a great cause! I have the greatest fans in the world because they give back."

"Also thanks to the fans for helping me take a moment for @seankingston b4 eenie meenie 2nite (sic). Get better big bro. We miss u (sic)."

He added: "Tonight we are all just happy. Great night. We did that show for all the right reasons. 2nite (sic) my fans helped #makeachange with College Track."

Justin Bieber’s girlfriend Selena Gomez was “malnourished and exhausted”

The singer said she had been “low on iron and exhausted” as she made her return to the stage.

Selena Gomez has revealed the cause behind her mystery illness saying she was malnourished and exhausted.

The 18-year-old actress and singer looked poorly as she was spotted readmitting herself to a Californian hospital just days after an emergency visit.

Speaking ahead of her rescheduled gig in Santa Monica Place Mall, she tweeted: “Feeling much better, thank you all for being so understanding. Can't wait to see you all today at Santa Monica.”

Selena had a much healthier glow as she performed to the 500-strong crowd wearing a white sheer top, some black mini-shorts and a pair of black and tan patent stilettos.

After performing her hits Who Says and A Year Without Rain, the teen apologised to her fans for the rescheduled show and revealed the cause behind her mystery illness.

“I was just very malnourished, so I was low on iron and exhausted.

“I want to thank you so much for coming. If you guys came on Friday, I'm so sorry that I couldn't be here... I love you guys very much.”

Selena’s bout of ill health arose last week following an appearance on The Tonight Show where she joked that her boyfriend Justin Bieber had passed the all-important mum test.

She complained of nausea and a severe headache and had an overnight stay in hospital where she underwent a number of tests.

Boyfriend Justin Bieber tweeted a message of support to the performer on Friday, simply saying #getwellselena.

He also missed the Stanley Cup finals in the Vancouver's Rogers Arena where he had reserved an entire block of seats to watch the ice hockey.

Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina Say Musical Collaboration Will Happen in Time

‘American Idol‘ winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina are gearing up to both head into the studio to begin work on their debut country albums under the Universal Music Group label. This past week, the two singers spent much time in Music City as part of the 2011 CMA Music Fest, but their time in Nashville at the fan festival wasn’t all for fun. The two did meet with their label to discuss song selection and material for their forthcoming releases. As the two have remained close throughout the ‘Idol’ experience, many have wondered: Have the two discussed working up a duet in the future?

“Yeah, we have,” McCreery tells Taste of Country.

“We need to establish ourselves as artists first,” adds Alaina. “[We'll establish ourselves] separately, and then hopefully down the road, if we’re still around, we’ll put [out] something together.”

Both McCreery and Alaina are looking forward to writing songs and looking for new material to incorporate into their live stage shows. “It’s been really cool for us because we’ve been doing a whole show of covers,” says McCreery.

“It’s kind of scary that we’re going to have to come out with our own songs that nobody’s ever heard and see how people react,” notes Alaina.

One thing is for sure: the two southerners are glad to be out of L.A. and back around their home states of North Carolina (McCreery) and Georgia (Alaina).

“It was pretty insane, I tell you what,” McCreery says with a grin. “Living in L.A. was cool, but I hate to say it wasn’t my scene. It’s good to be back home … have some sweet tea and being around some great people and great artists.”

“Yeah, country’s where our heart is,” agrees Alaina. “We’re really happy to be surrounded by country people now [laughs].”

Scotty McCreery Debuts At The Grand Ole Opry Continue reading on Examiner.com Scotty McCreery Debuts At The Grand Ole Opry - Columbia Events | Examin

"American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery made his Grand Ole Opry debut Friday evening, according to The Tennesseean. Although he's not the youngest ever to grace the venerated stage (Tanya Tucker and several others come to mind), the 17-year-old is definitely among the youngest (as was the act before him, 16-year-old Lauren Alaina). Regardless, the North Carolina country boy might have already embarked upon a career that might find him among the legends of the Opry one day.

Introduced by the legendary John Conlee, Scotty stepped out to a stirring round of applause and performed his first single, the coronation song for winning "American Idol" Season 10, "I Love You This Big." At song's end, he did what he's famous for -- dropped a little good-natured humor. He apologized to the crowd that he only had one original song to sing for them, but it was all he had to give so far. And with that, he segued into the George Strait song, "Check Yes Or No" that he had performed on the "American Idol" finale, a song picked by Strait himself for the teen to sing (Scotty having told the producers the singing legend was his personal idol).

The Grand Ole Opry appearance was part of the 2011 CMA Music Festival, an fan-oriented annual event that draws millions to Nashville to see their favorite country music artists. While Scotty was at the Opry, he got to rub shoulders with the likes of Randy Travis and the legendary Charley Pride.

His finale competitor also made her Grand Ole Opry debut. Lauren preceded Scotty on the stage, singing Leann Rimes' "Blue" and her own coronation song, "Like My Mother Does."

The Grand Ole Opry is the premiere country music venue. It has been hosting weekly concert events featuring both established and contemporary country music artists since 1925. Often called "America's most famous stage," the Nashville landmark is visited by millions of tourists each year and exceptance as a member and into its Hall of Fame is considered among the highest acheivements in country music.

And Scotty McCreery, with only one single under his belt (albeit a record-setting single -- "I Love You This Big" was the highest charting first single by a debut artist since the country music charts began using digital data to track songs), has now graced the stage. Next step: becoming a member.

Selena Gomez To Head Out On Mall Tour

Selena Gomez seems be following her best friend Demi Lovato by doing a series of concerts in malls across America. It kicks off in Phoenix AZ. Here is a list of confirmed cities thus far.

6/10 Santa Monica Place (Santa Monica, CA) @ 4PM
6/12 The Block at Orange (Orange, CA) @ 2PM
    6/13 Phoenix Mall (Phoenix, AZ) @ 6PM
6/14 Grapevine Mills Mall (Grapevine, TX) @ 5:20PM
6/16 Mall of Georgia (Buford, GA) @ 6PM
6/20 King of Prussia Mall (King of Prussia, PA) @ 6PM
6/21 Miami International Mall (Doral, FL)

6/27 Laurel Park Place Mall (Livonia, MI) @ 6PM

Are any of you planning to catch her on her mall tour? I have a feeling that it will be a popular tour. I do wonder why they are focusing on malls and not other venues right now? I would think most singers would want to aim for bigger concert halls, but they seem content with small mall tours.

Lauren Alaina's 'Mother' Makes Impressive Debut

Lauren Alaina may not have finished first, but the recent 'American Idol' runner-up is quickly establishing herself as a formidable contender on the music charts. Her debut single, 'Like My Mother Does,' entered Billboard's all-genre Hot 100 chart at No. 20, in addition to No. 9 on the trade's Digital Songs chart, with an 121,204 single downloads sold.

This impressive feat marks the highest debut for a second place finalist in six years. "This is so awesome!" Lauren exclaims. "'American Idol' has changed my life, so I'm excited that the songs I performed on there are doing so well. I can't believe that I have a song out on country radio, much less that so many stations started playing it right away. I can't wait to get out and meet everybody and thank them personally for playing my song."

And that song is one that hits close to home for Lauren. "Not only is 'Like My Mother Does' important to me professionally, but it's also special to me personally because my mom has been beside me through this whole thing," she tells. "She has been my biggest cheerleader and my biggest supporter when I was feeling down. This song is for her."

The Georgia native has a busy summer ahead. Aside from recording her debut album in Nashville, the singer will attend the CMA Music Festival, present an award at the CMT Music Awards and make her Grand Ole Opry debut June 10.

Lauren will join the other 'Idol' finalists on the American Idol Live! tour beginning July 6. Click here for ticket availability.Source URL: http://collectors45.blogspot.com/2011/06/
