Bieber shows Gomez his hometown

Teen sensation Justin Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez were the hottest item in town Wednesday.

Bieber shot nine holes with his dad at the Stratford Country Club before taking off in a black BMW.

“He asked for his privacy and we respected that and let him be,” said David Lee, director of operations at the course. “We just kind of kept away and let him go play, it probably doesn’t happen too often for him.”

Someone called the course to book a tee time for about 9 a.m. on Bieber’s behalf. The superstar used to play golf at the course a few years ago.

“I cannot speak to his golf abilities, but I get the impression he enjoys it,” Lee said.

Bieber was on the links for a couple of hours. Long enough for word to get out and for a small group of girls to gather at the country club.

While he golfed, Gomez ate breakfast at Madelyn’s Diner.

The pair were later spotted in front of the Avon Theatre where Bieber used to busk long before he signed a record deal.

Bieber and Gomez stopped for ice cream at Scooper’s in the afternoon.

“It was great. Everyone was pretty excited,” said manager Emily Leyser.

Bieber had a double raspberry frozen yogurt and Gomez had a single Rolo. This was the first time Leyser had seen Bieber since he moved to the U.S. He spent about 15 minutes in Scooper's.

“It was definitely weird — the excitement and tension in the air. It’s not every day we meet famous people,” Leyser said.

Just a few minutes was long enough for a group of about 15 or 20 girls to congregate outside Scooper’s.

Bieber didn’t make a stop at his alma mater, Stratford Northwestern, while classes were on. No one from his camp made any arrangements for a visit either, though he’d be welcome at the school, said Jane Morris, vice-principal for the elementary section.

“We would love it if he would like to have a visit,” she said.

Morris was waiting for 24 Grade 7 students from Manitoba to arrive on an exchange.

“Wait until we tell them,” she said with a chuckle.

Teacher Keith Edwards said students were well aware of Bieber’s travels around the city, but didn’t hear any rumors he would visit the school. Edwards’ class put signed, purple Nike shoes donated by Bieber up on eBay earlier this year to raise money for a broadcast booth. The shoes fetched $1,425.
