Apparently people on Twitter have been critical of 19-year-old Demi Lovato and the way she looked at the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday. She looks like she’s put on weight, the say. I hope so, since she had an eating disorder before.
So I asked my girls about how they thought Demi looked the other night. At first, they said like Snooki, but they were talking more about Demi’s tan than her weight. Then I asked specifically: People are saying she looked like she’s getting kind of fat. Do you think so?
My older daughter said, “Well, she did look a little bigger.” I told her about the eating disorder and that her being bigger meant she was feeling better.
This is just another example of how skewed our vision of beauty is in this country. And now my daughter — at least in this case — is buying into it.
