is doing more to get her life together than living cleanly. She’s also cleaning house of enablers who watched her self-destruct and did nothing about it.

“I’ve had to let a few people go just because I know that my (best) interest wasn’t in their hearts,” she said in an interview this week with The Associated Press.

Lovato, 19, crashed and burned during a South American tour, where she was opening for the Jonas Brothers band.

Her temperamental nature in an altercation with one of her backup dancers, Alex “Shortly” Welch, that landed her in rehab. Lovato punched Welch in the face after accusing her of telling tour managers about a late night out drinking.

Lovato says she was spiraling out of control, struggling with an eating disorder, self-mutilation and other issues.

Members of her team, who knew that she was hurting herself but did nothing to stop it, ended up getting fired.

She also left “Sonny With a Chance,” her Disney Channel show to lighten her workload.

She recently released her third album, Unbroken, and her lead single, “Skyscraper,” made the top 10 on the charts. Lovato calls the song her “cry for help.”

She says she is still in therapy, calling it a “daily thing.” As part of that, she decided to speak out on behalf of girls with similar problems.

“A lot of people thought I was in there for drugs and alcohol, and I was in there for an eating disorder and cutting.

“So as hard as it was for me to come out and say like, ‘This is why I’m really in here,’ I wanted to set the record straight,” she said.
