Last night Selena and Taylor were spotted at Benihana in Beverly Hills, a Japanese restaurant that provides entertainment along with your meal, including "flying shrimp" (maybe the girls got the idea to go there after watching Barney try his hand at teppanyaki cooking tricks on How I Met Your Mother last night).
Taylor arrived at the restaurant wearing an adorable 1920s style hat, while Selena didn't attempt to conceal her identity with any headgear.
The girls reportedly had a good time, but Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift were also an example of how much teen friendship has changed over the years. Instead of giggling and gossiping with one another during their whole meal, they both spent a lot of time looking at their phones. So was Selena constantly texting Justin Bieber while Taylor checked messages from a mystery man? After all, her exes Taylor Lautner and Joe Jonas seem to still be a little interested in her.
Despite their phone attachment issues, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift certainly seem to have fun hanging out together while Selena is away from the Biebs, but it would be great if Taylor would find someone to somewhat settle down with so that they could double date. Selena is still pals with Taylor Lautner, as evidenced by her presence at the premiere of his movie Abduction, so perhaps she needs to start trying to play matchmaker.
Selena Gomez is going to be the host of the MTV EMAs, so maybe she can talk someone into arranging for Taylor squared to sit together. And since Justin Bieber has also tried to play matchmaker for Kendall Jenner in the past and owes Taylor for playing a trick on her for Punk'd, maybe Selena can get him involved in setting the two up.
